Murderer Pursues (1981)
A group of refugees from Vietnam form a bond in a refugee camp in Hong Kong, but after they escape they become separated. One who was born in Hong Kong finds his uncle and gains citizenship, joining the police force, whilst the others end up dragged into a life of crime.
MURDERER PURSUES is almost two films in one, as if A Better Tomorrow was being filmed on the same set as a serial killer film and they kept getting the scripts mixed up... but the asymmetrical relationships thus established give the film an interesting dynamic.
The film almost has something to say about the plight of immigrants, particularly refugees, though it's a bit vague and probably not terribly profound.
Wang Ching gives a convincingly creepy performance as the titular murderer (not a spoiler, his identity is never a mystery), Kent Cheng kind of rocks as the detective uncle and Danny Lee fills the Dai Lo role pretty well. I completely failed to recognise Ray Lui despite him being the main character... must be the moustache!
