The Secret Rivals 2 continues with the "low budget, minimal star power, lots of action" formula of The Secret Rivals, swapping out Wong Tao for Tino Wong (a more or less neutral move) and using the "twin brother" trick to bring Hwang Jang-Lee back as the main villain again.

This film can basically be summarised as "a bunch of guys fight each other for some reason". Ng See-Yuen tosses a few plot-shaped crumbs our way, but if it was just somebody saying "I don't like the look of your face" every time two parties encountered each other the film wouldn't be substantially different.

The fighting is fierce and showcases the different styles and strengths of the participants, most notably John Liu's mighty kicks once more. There's nothing overly flashy or over the top, relying on the performers' natural talents.

It must be noted that Hwang Jang-Lee's 2-dimensional take on Rock, Paper, Scissors does not hold up to much scrutiny - "kicks counter boxing, boxing counters kicking" was a plan doomed to failure.
