Lady Whirlwind (1972)
This film has one of those plots that is both incredibly simple and incredibly hard to summarise... "Angela Mao has a wasted trip", I suppose.
Golden Harvest made a string of films like this in the 1970's in the wake of The Chinese Boxer, often directed by Huang Feng, often starring Angela Mao, often featuring Sammo Hung as action director... often filmed in South Korea for some reason, as seems to be the case here, though there might be parts filmed in Taiwan.
Action is plentiful and veers from some really interesting and progressive choreography with a very active camera to parts that are very obviously staged and kind of clunky.
The film looks great, with the exception of a few very out of focus shots that should probably have been cut.
I enjoyed it more on this watch than when I first saw it, maybe because the restored bluray looks much better than the DVD, maybe just because it caught me at the right time.
