The Brave and the Evil (1971)

Really impressive action for 1971

After leaving Shaw Brothers, Jimmy Wang Yu briefly teamed up with the Union Films crew - perhaps to make use of their sets, maybe just to hang out with Polly Shang-Kuan - and the result was THE BRAVE AND THE EVIL.

Considering it's not well known it is surprisingly great! The story is ultra basic (which is not the same as bad), but the action is well above the usual Union Films standard - in fact it compares favourably with pretty much anything from 1971.

Neither Jimmy Wang Yu or Polly Shang-Kuan were great fighters, but they both tear up dudes with enthusiasm here, and the camera captures the action very well - even in the large scale brawls the flow of the action narrative is clear

The villain has great taste in lair decor too!

This seems ripe for a remaster from one of the boutique labels.
